Presify vs Teramind: a privacy-first contrast

If you are comparing Presify and Teramind, you are probably weighing two very different answers to the question "what do we actually want to know about our people?" These tools sit at opposite ends of a spectrum, and picking the right one is mostly about being honest with yourself about which end you need.

This is a fair, category-level contrast. We will tell you plainly where Presify is the wrong tool, because if you need what the other category offers, you should buy that and not us.

Two different categories, not two versions of the same thing

According to their public marketing, Teramind is positioned at the comprehensive end of employee monitoring. Tools in that category are built for things like insider-threat detection, data-loss prevention (DLP), and detailed activity and behavior monitoring across what people do on their devices. That is a broad, deep capability set, and it exists for good reasons: regulated industries, security teams chasing real exfiltration risk, and organizations with a genuine forensic need all rely on it.

Presify is the deliberate opposite. We do one narrow thing: we turn Microsoft Teams presence (available, away, busy, offline) into history and analytics. That is the entire product. We read presence on a short, regular schedule through the Microsoft Graph presence API, store each change, and turn it into timelines, online-time trends, and anomaly flags, per person and per team. If you have not yet decided whether you even need a tool for this, the pillar on how to see Teams status history walks through the options first.

The spine of the contrast: a comprehensive surveillance and insider-threat platform on one side, a minimal, read-only, presence-history-only tool on the other. No agent, no screenshots, no keystroke logging, ever, on the Presify side.

What Presify deliberately does and does not do

We think the clearest way to compare these honestly is to state exactly what Presify does, and invite you to verify the other tool against the same criteria yourself.

Presify is read-only and minimal. We read Teams presence and the basic directory fields needed to label and scope users. We never read message content, chats, calls, files, or calendars. There is no endpoint agent: setup is a one-time, read-only Microsoft admin consent, and nothing is installed on anyone's device. We do not take screenshots, log keystrokes, or record screens. We never will. Those are not features we have turned off; they are not in the product at all.

Comprehensive monitoring platforms, by design, reach much further into device-level activity. If that depth is what you need, that is a legitimate need, and you should evaluate a tool built for it. Confirm the exact capabilities directly with the vendor.

We have left the comprehensive-monitoring column at the category level on purpose. We are not going to assert specifics about another vendor's feature set or price as fixed facts. Check the current details with them.

How Presify treats the data it does collect

Because the signal is narrow, we can be strict about handling it. Access is role-based, with owner, admin, and a scoped monitor role that sees only what it is assigned. Every state-changing action lands in an append-only audit log. Retention is plan-based, so history trims automatically, and both per-user and workspace-wide deletion are built in. Guests are excluded from monitoring entirely, and users located in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, or Canada are not monitored. Everything runs tenant-isolated on US infrastructure. There is more detail on the security page.

One more thing that defines our posture: anomaly flags always show the math behind them. Presence describes what a status showed, not why. A long stretch of "away" is evidence for a conversation, not a verdict. We built the product to support a fair discussion with a person, not to hand you a judgment about them.

Who each is for

Choose a comprehensive monitoring platform when you genuinely need insider-threat forensics, data-loss prevention, or detailed device and application activity. If your real problem is "someone may be exfiltrating data" or "we are under a compliance regime that requires deep activity records," Presify is the wrong tool, and we will say so directly. That category exists for those needs.

Choose Presify when the question is narrower and you want to keep it that way: you want Teams presence history and trends, you want it read-only and agent-free, and you specifically do not want screenshots, keystroke logs, or screen recording in your environment. Teams who care about minimizing what they collect, keeping setup to a single admin consent, and being able to explain to their own people exactly what is and is not captured tend to land here.

If that minimal, presence-only, privacy-first description fits, see how Presify works or start with one Microsoft sign-in.
